Originally, long long ago, one purpose of this website was to do some fundraising to help Neung's family. We are very grateful for all the donations that we received.
We were able, with the help of donations, to provide concrete help to them in the immediate aftermath of the tsunami. Sanam set up a business to grow and sell plants. She originally created a small garden inside the camp and then moved this garden to their house. We arranged for the purchase of a flat-bed truck for her, so that she can transport these plants for sale at local markets. We also incurred various other expenses. For example, we were honored to be able to pay for Somsri's funeral. All of this was before we had the remotest idea that Neung would become our daughter.
Now, however, Khun Sanam and Khun Panya are our family, and any help that we provide to them should be our responsibility alone.
Our visits to Ban Nam Kem have brought us in contact with many of the other children from the village. Some -- particularly the slightly older children and also the Burmese children living in the village -- have still received pitifully little support after the tsunami. We have carried out a couple of small projects to help them; you can find details on the blog.
All of which is to say that we are no longer actively fundraising, but if you would like to make a donation to help these children, we would certainly be very grateful, and can promise that it will be put to good use.
If you have any questions about past or future projects, feel free to email us at tsunami@ajkconsulting.com.
Thank you.
